Ivan A Derzhanski's Professional Interests
Theoretical Linguistics
In the last several years my favourite part has been aspect
-- its semantics and syntax and its interaction with other categories
(viz. mode of action, tense and negation as well as number, countability,
specificity/definiteness and thematic structure).
Some other things that I'm interested in:
- The interaction between semantic relations, discourse structure and
grammatical functions across languages. Systems and mechanisms of case
marking.
- Linguistic universals, their nature and parametrisation and their motivation
within the existing formal frameworks.
- Statistical phonotactics.
- Writing systems, their history and typology.

Anti-Chomsky
page.
Computational Linguistics
At present I'm mostly interested in computational morphology
and its handling by finite-state methods.
