An Efficient Technique for Solving Linear Elastic Wave Propagation Problem N. Petrov and M. Mikrenska Abstract The purpose of this work is to minimize the computational time in Newmark scheme for solving linear elastic wave propagation problem. A relation between the error due to unexact solution of the linear system of algebraic equations, the degree of polynomial that approximate the inverse matrix and Courant number is found. The optimal value of Courant number minimizing arithmetic operations is determined. It implies the optimal choice of time step and polynomial degree that ensure required accuracy in time T.
