Conferences and seminars organized
by
the Department of Algebra
The Department of Algebra has a regular in Algebra, which plays the
role of a National Algebra seminar. Very often the meetings of the
seminar are organized jointly with other departments of IMI like the
Department of Mathematical Foundations of Informatics, Probability and
Statistics as well as the Chair of Algebra of the Faculty of
Mathematics and Informatics at the University of Sofia. The Algebra
Seminar in 2000 was under the motto “Mathematics Between Two
Millenniums”. In recent years talks at the seminar have been
given by renowned foreign mathematicians like Kevin Ford, Changho Keem,
Joseph Ladsberg, Roberto La Scala, Ralf Holtkamp, .F. Benanti, L.
Carini among others as well as many Bulgarian mathematicians working
abroad like Plamen Koev, Plamen Koshlukov, Dessislava Kochloukova, I.
Horozov , A. Stoimenow, M. Kassabov, etc. The Department of Algebra
also conducts seminars in Algebra, Ring Theory, Algebraic Geometry, etc.
2003
The Department of Algebra of IMI jointly with the departments of
Algebra and Algebraic Geometry of the Romanian Academy, Polish Academy
of Sciences and Hungarian Academy of Sciences organized a big
Conference in Algebraic Geometry, Algebra and Applications (AGAAP),
Sept 23 – Oct 3, 2003 at Borovetz.
2007
The Department of Algebra organized the Section in Algebra and Number
Theory in the framework of the International Conference 60 years
Institute of Mathematics and Informatics, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences
July 6 - 8, 2007, Sofia.
Members of the department regularly participate in national and
international conferences, workshops, schools as members of the
organizing committees, invited speakers, etc. Very often all the costs
for the participation are covered by the organizers.
Grants and Contracts
Members of the department have been supported or have been contracted
to work on different projects with various national and international
scientific institutions, as well as by some non-government
organizations. The main grants and contracts that members of the
department have been part of are:
- Grants 876/1988 and 969/1989 of the Ministry of Culture,
Education and Science, and Grants from the National Science Foundation
M2/1991, MM404/1994.
- Grant MM605/1996 Combinatorial and Computational Methods in
Algebras with Polynomial Identities.
- Grant MM1106/2001 Theoretical and Computer Investigations
