About the Project
The major objective of the project
"Fibonacci
- Disseminating Inquiry-Based Science and Mathematics Education in
Europe"
is to promote and disseminate the inquiry-based
approach in mathematics and science education. The existing institutions
with significant experience in this type of education will support the
establishment and strengthening of similar centres that in turn will
assist the establishment of new such centres. By applying this procedure
repeatedly, the number of such centres will grow similarly to hte
Fibonacci sequence and hence the name of the project.
The centres will prepare future teachers and will qualify acting
teachers to apply the inquiry-based approach in mathematics and science.
The project started in January 2010 and will continue 38 months, until
February 2013. It is funded by the European Union under the Seventh
Framework Programme for research and technology development. The project
is coordinated by the French programme La
main à la pâte comprising
Académie
des sciences, Institut National de
Recherche Pédagogique, École normale
supérieure, and the latter organization is legally
responsible for the project implementation. The part of the project
concerning mathematics education is managed by the University of
Bayreuth, Germany. The Consortium includes 25 organizations from 21
countries. Bulgaria is represented by
the Institute of Mathematics and
Informatics, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Seventh
