Abstract:
The research examines fundamental interpretations of the Libyan Sibyl (1512) by Michelangelo Buonarotti (1475–1564), with particular emphasis on the significance of this preparatory drawing and its place in the Sistine chapel. The text traces various characteristics such as anatomical features and the techniques for constructing the body, the technical aspects of the process and the symbolism of the image. This study evaluates the drawing in the context of Italian humanism and how the philosophical idea of “uomo universale” is expressed. The female figure in Michelangelo’s art is revealed as a bridge between the ancient tradition and Christianity. It aquires a transpersonal perspective as a symbol of universal human potential.
