The development of new modern, multifunctional, hi-tech materials is a key issue in ‘smart‘structures technology. Defects and cracks are commonly present in these materials, both during the manufacturing process and afterwards under service conditions.

The main aim of the project is to propose, develop, validate and apply a new accurate and efficient hybrid Boundary Integral Equation (BIE) - Cellular Neural Network (CNN) approach for evaluation of stress-strain distribution in 2-D cracked piezoelectric solids and solution of inverse problems for identification of their geometrical and mechanical properties...

The proposed new BIE-CNN method, algorithms and software for solving BVPs in piezoelectric continua with singularities is multidisciplinary and concerns: pure and applied mathematics, mechanics of continuum, computational fracture mechanics, theory of wave propagation and non-destructive evaluation method.
