Title:
About the Clown in Several Works of Bulgarian Graphic Artist
Autor(s):
Nikolina Dzhanovska, "St. Cyril and St. Methodius" University of Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria,
Abstact:
We usually think of the circus and the ideas associated to it, with something childish and cheerful, or with a sense of happiness, amazement and admiration.
However, as we age, this perception changes, and the feelings that are bound to it transform into the complete opposite.
In this report we will look at the image of the clown represented in the artworks of different generations of Bulgarian graphic artists.
We will try to follow the evolution of that image over time, as well as look for the connection between the author and the social reality, and the artist’s reason to turn to the particular allegorical statement.
