Abstact:
We can understand the term cholo writing as the hand style made by the local chicano gangs in Los Angeles.
The word chicano is used to self-determine the americans with mexican descent in USA, and also to determine the Mexican-americans in southwest US and Los Angeles.
It is a clearly distinguishable phenomenon, with a specific place in the history of graffiti in the western world. This writing is the first "styled name" (Taki 183, Chaz, Futura 2000, Dondi etc.) which emerges in 20th century with unique by its kind and highly specific aesthetic.
Cholo writing develops long before the emerging of traditional graffiti from the eastern coast and their explosion in 70’s and 80’s in New York.
