Heiner Goebbels is German composer, theatre director and pedagogue. The present text aims to present an analysis of two of his performances in attempt to discover and define the ways in which his ideas of "drama of perception" and "aesthetics of absence" are realized. This reading is based on live observation of "Everything that happened and would happen" and audio and video records of "Stifter's Dinge". Although they are very different from each other, the main idea of the director about aesthetics of absence manifest in both performances: displacement of the performer from the centre of attention, even absolute absence of performer; an empty centre – absence of clearly defined topic or message, absence of central focus and absence of story or narrative; division of presence among all the elements.
