Koprivshtitza is a small mountain town situated in the Sashtinska Sredna Gora Mountains, far from other inhabited locations. It’s an old museum town from the Bulgarian National Revival period. Koprivshtitza is characterized by its old houses, some of which are more than two centuries old. The town was the home of many notable names in Bulgarian history, mainly participants in the April Uprising and the Bulgarian national liberation movement. The April Uprising started from Koprivshtitza with the first rifle shot fired by Tihanek and the delivery of the quot;blood letterquot; by Kableshkov to Panagyurishte. That’s why most houses have memorial plaques. There is also a mausoleum-ossuary in the town centre. The central square is fittingly called 20th April. Koprivshtitzza is an attractive tourist centre with many museums, galleries, interesting historic houses, guest houses, and hiking routes of medium difficulty. The town has preserved its Bulgarian National Revival architectural style.
