Abstact:
This paper discusses specific practices of improvement of equity in the access to visual information by digitalization of genealogical information and finding proper ways of representation of visual archival studies to local communities. Local genealogical heritage in Bulgaria is endangered by predominant interest to biographical information related to elites, and by the risk of digital inaccessibility. Neglect to local memory on the everyday life of ordinary individuals and low-strata social groups is irrelevant to global processes in the field of micro-historical and informational-communicational research. Variety of contemporary examples of approaches to preservation, presentation, and exploitation of local historical data and visual information demonstrate the digital dimension of accessibility that would contribute to more transparency, and could provide alternatives for informational equity for people with any disability. Popular art is a cultural field of innovation and transformation and the dynamics of its expressions and artifacts is hardly compatible with sustainability necessary for memorial and genealogical dimensions of traditional and normative creative processes of the past. Nevertheless, contemporary art is already subsidized and welcome in Bulgaria, thus acquiring social status and preservation, either in folk, street or high monumental art. Therefore it becomes involved in patriotic and genealogical memorialisation, being able to provide contemporary people with artistic expression more relevant to recent glocal cultural landscape. This paper explores some perspectives of popular art attitudes to innovate local history representation and heritage preservation.
