The EMS Council meets every second year. The next meeting will be held in Sofia, 10-11 July 2010, in the Metropolitan Hotel. The Council Meeting starts at 13.00 on 10 July and ends at noon on 11 July.

Dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of EMS

The European Mathematical Society (EMS) is currently involved in the European Science Foundation (ESF) project “Forward Look on Mathematics and Industry". The aim of this initiative is to develop a European vision and policy recommendations on the interactions between mathematics and economy (industries, companies, banks, insurances, etc.), to improve the mathematics education according to the needs of industry and also to strengthen the position of mathematics within the funding initiatives of the European Union. The conference in Sofia is intended to be a step towards the realization of these aims.

As a follow up of two important initiatives in this direction,

• the conference “Educational Interfaces between Mathematics and Industry”, Lisbon, Portugal, April 19-23, 2010, and
• the Consensus Conference, Madrid, Spain, April 26-27, 2010,

The conference programme will include invited lectures and short presentations.

NEW: On-site registration for the Mathematics in Industry Conference will be open at Metropolitan Hotel from 10:00 to 14:00, Sunday, July 11, 2010.
