My work at a glance


Where I work:

I am an associate professor in the Telecommunications Department of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics (Sofia, Bulgaria).
I obtained my PhD degree in Informatics and Applied Mathematics in 1999.

Major fields of interest:

  • digital preservation of mediæval manuscripts
  • text encoding
  • applications of information technologies to the Humanities
  • education in information technologies for Humanities' students

Awards:

  • Award of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for young researchers for original achievements in the computer representation of mediæval Slavonic texts (1998)

Teaching:

  • Invited lecturer at the UNESCO training for library specialists from Croatia (Pula, 2000) and Summer University program of the Central European University, Budapest, Hungary (1996, 1997).
  • Academic director of three international summer schools (1998, 1999, 2002).

Research:

  • Co-ordinator of three national and three international projects.
  • Author of more than 30 publications.
  • Invited presentations for conferences and workshops held in Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Spain, UK, USA, Yugoslavia (1993-2003).

Other activities:

  • Member of the Expert Committee on Information Technologies at the National Science Fund, Ministry of Education and Science of Bulgaria (since 2003).
  • Representative of Bulgaria at the Central European Initiative (CEI) for the information society trend (since 2003).
  • Consultant of the Electronic publishing development program, OSI--Budapest (2000-2001).
  • Member of the expert committee Information and Documentation of the Bulgarian Institute for Standardisation (since 1998).
  • Member of the Council of the Department of Public Administration, New Bulgarian University (1992-1998).
