Abstract: The article summarizes the results of field survey on the settlement network during the prehistoric age along the Golyama Kamchia valley. 83 prehistoric settlements (figure 1) – 23 Neolithic (figure 14), 67 Chalcolithic (figure 17) have been registered.
The ceramics from the early Neolithic settlements has the characteristics of the Koprivets culture and the Ovcharovo culture. The late Neolithic period, which corresponds to the Karanovo IV, was not presented in any of the sites. There is no continuity between the settlements of the early Neolithic and these from the early Chalcolith.
During the early and the middle Chalcolith in the region is developed the culture Polianitza, and during the late Chalcolith developed the culture Kodjadermen - Gumelnitsa - Karanovo VI. There is a smooth transition between the cultures Polianitza and Kodjadermen. Most of the sites cease their existence during the first or second phase of Kodjadermen culture. There are no archaeological sites from the end of the late Chalcolith.
