Title: Architecture with Culture and Social Value in the 150 Years History of Comunity Center Nadezhda "(Hope)", Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria
Authors: Donka Koleva

Abstract: The architectural history of the theater hall of the Chitalishte "Nadezhda", declared in 1973 as a historical cultural value of national importance, and of the library, declared in 1980 as an architectural and construction cultural value, is interesting. The hall from 1886 is connected with sittings of three Great National Assemblies and important events for the establishment of the Third Bulgarian State. The library building with a reading room and a museum was built in 1912 to awaken public life and the mental and moral development of the citizens.
One of the traditional tasks of the Chitalishte Board in the past and today is to seek funds to maintain this cultural home, which continues the mission bequeathed by our ancestors to preserve and develop traditional Bulgarian values.

Title: Social Renovation Department and National Propaganda Department through the Eyes of the Caricaturist Rayko Aleksiev (1934-1943)
Authors: Mila Krasteva

Abstract: After the coup on the 19th of May 1934, the time of episodic propaganda actions gives way to the decade in which propaganda becomes a key element of the Bulgarian political elite’s activity. During the 1930s and 1940s the Social Renovation Department and the National Propaganda Department are the institutions that to the greatest extentform the political attitudes of the Bulgarian society. During this period, Shturets (Cricket) Newspaper becomes part of the everyday life of every Bulgarian and turns to be an opportunity for giving it a comic meaning. Until the beginning of the Second World War, the caricatures of Rayko Aleksiev objectively reflect the national and foreign political events, but after 1939 they are used for achieving suggestions in favour of the Bulgarian rulers.

Title: Mythological Archetypes in the Work of Vladimir Dimitrov - The Master
Authors: Elena Panayotova

Abstract: In the work of the great Bulgarian artist Vladimir Dimitrov - The Master are applied mythological archetypes, studied theoretically today in the field of visual arts. The archetypes of the center, the radiant light, the connection of the figures with the background stand out. The master reflects the bride's fairy, the gentleness of the mother and the power of the rushed master - bathed in golden light. By painting, the Master worships the beauty and perfection of "eternal life.". These themes, visually developed by the Master, have been proposed for study and interpretation by students who, with enthusiasm, go in the footsteps of the great artist and show great results in their creative work.

Authors: Liana Galabova

Abstract: Iconographic abundance of images of Saint John of Rilla for a long time attracts scholarly interest in regard of preservation, presentation, and digitalisation of the rich cultural heritage of Rilla stavropigial monastery as a monument of culture of international value and central pilgrimage sacred site in Bulgaria. Images, church symbols, and prayer processions as element of tourist branding reach the border of secular and religious cultural practices that represent live Eastern Orthodox Christian heritage. Exploration of the visual representation of the image of Bulgarian patron saint in artistic-theological details deserves interest in the context of the hierotopy of the cult of saints, their relics and icons, and other objects related to their veneration.

Title: Image of Saint John of Rilla and the Sustainable Tourist Effect of Pilgrimage
Authors: Paskal Piperkov, Liana Galabova

Abstract: Images of Saint John of Rilla are part of ten-year institutionalised tradition of pilgrimage to central sacred space in Bulgaria, the stavropegial monastery Dormition of Theotokos in Rilla mountain. Pilgrims follow the steps of medieval Bulgarians on the route of historical translation of the relics of the reverend saint from Veliko Tarnovo through Sofia to Rilla monastery in 1469.
Creating new religious and tourist practice, contemporary Eastern Orthodox guides and local authorities organise popular event richer than just an occasional restoration of previous emergent church procession. Walking through the country on the Sacred Rilla road every summer for more than a month, pilgrims bring, find, and exchange sacred images of Bulgarian patron saint that inspire people and communities, and bring cultural value and tourist sustainability to remote and quiet sacred places.

Title: The Key to the Great Lavra "Holy Forty Martyrs"
Authors: Mirko Robov

Abstract: The key was found in the northern yard of the "Holy Forty Martyrs" monastery, approximately where the northern gate of the complex must have been located. As a plastic two-dimensional piece the key is shaped as an upright human figure. It belongs to the type of padlocks keys, which unlock with a sliding movement. It’s made of wrought iron, with a complex locking code.
The key depicts an upright human figure with symmetric proportions, with two hands relaxed on the sides of the body. The general silhouette, the proportions, the clothing style and the modeling of the veiled head, resembles an image of a monk, which corresponds to the function of the item, as a key to the main gate of the "Holy Forty Martyrs" monastery in Veliko Tarnovo.
