Title: A Hypothetical Relationship with Regard to the Identification of the Villa’s Property’s Identification from the Romanian Artisan Cartier
Authors: Sabin Popovici
Abstract: This article is an attempt to identify the villae-i owner in the Romulus Handicraft District, perhaps the only identification of a villa owner in Dacia Inferior. Our hypothesis is based on several arguments that mention: * The discovery of an inscription tile in the immediate vicinity of the villae-i, a tile with an inscription identical to that of a sarcophagus in Rome, the italic character of this villa, the numerous presence of italics in Dacia (and a significant number of those in genius Annia, the discovery of a funeral double at Porolissum, and the fact that the sarcophagus of Lucius Annius Valerianus of Rome was discovered unfinished, which supports the idea that he did not die there. The discoverer villae-i Gh. Popilian argues that our hypothesis is based on the evidence that the inscription tile would have been discovered in the flat necropolis near the villae-i, but in his opinion, Lucius Annius's material state, Octavius Valerianus, would exclude a funeral, even a transient in a necropolis of the poor. In the opinion of this researcher the main deficiency of our hypothesis is that it starts from general to particular, with only some cases being chosen as analogies, and analogies can not serve as arguments (opinion expressed by researcher Gheorghe Popilian).

Title: The Settlement System from the Prehistoric Period on the Upper and the Middle Stream of the Golyama Kamchiya River. Stages and Methods of Research
Authors: Svetlana Venelinova, Valeri Grigorov
Abstract: The article summarizes the results of field survey on the settlement network during the prehistoric age along the Golyama Kamchia valley. 83 prehistoric settlements (figure 1) – 23 Neolithic (figure 14), 67 Chalcolithic (figure 17) have been registered. The ceramics from the early Neolithic settlements has the characteristics of the Koprivets culture and the Ovcharovo culture. The late Neolithic period, which corresponds to the Karanovo IV, was not presented in any of the sites. There is no continuity between the settlements of the early Neolithic and these from the early Chalcolith. During the early and the middle Chalcolith in the region is developed the culture Polianitza, and during the late Chalcolith developed the culture Kodjadermen - Gumelnitsa - Karanovo VI. There is a smooth transition between the cultures Polianitza and Kodjadermen. Most of the sites cease their existence during the first or second phase of Kodjadermen culture. There are no archaeological sites from the end of the late Chalcolith.

Title: 19th Century Community Centres (Chitalishta) – Homes of Enlightment and National Consciousness, Guaardians of Bulgarian Traditions
Authors: Donka Koleva
Abstract: The Chitalishta/community centres are those associations of followers which have elevated and kept the national consciousness and have been the source of the freedom-loving spirit of Bulgarians. The Renaissance period is always connected with the historical rebirth of Bulgaria. We know about our master-builders and their work creations, about the symbols, the legends and the stories in which the hope for humankind immortality is intertwined, but we don’t know enough about the social and moral life of the people of that time and their perception of truths. Many of those days Bulgarians have dedicated their lives to higher causes inspired by the idea for spiritual development. During the Renaissance arise one of the most respected and long-lived cultural institutions in Bulgaria – the community centres – "chitalishta". They emerge from the middle of 19th century as public organizations, libraries, educational and cultural centres and are real civil communities teaching cult, respect for the national origin, togetherness and unity in the thoughts and deeds. The first data for establishment of community centres in Bulgaria are from 1856 and these are the chitalishta in Svishtov, Lom and Shumen. The library in Svishtov community centre has more than 2000 volumes, in Lom is presented the first Bulgarian theatrical play – the adapted "The Suffering Genoveva" and in Shumen is kept the oldest and unique bible from 15th century weighing 3 kg. and the first Bulgarian theatrical curtain. The "chitalishta" are the first town centres which ensure equal participation and access to cultural and educational services and stimulating the development of social relationships and forms of interactions, preceding the formation of the Bulgarian nation. The Bulgarians start to organize chitalishta in Macedonia and in Istanbul – the strongest spiritual organization outside the Bulgarian boundaries. They emerge and are recognized as indicators for the national spirit where the consciousness for science is alive and that’s why prof. Marin Drinov calles them "collective centres of the most educated and most active for the progress of the nationality Bulgarian forces". In 1869 are opened chitalishta in Pleven, Plovdiv, Kazanluk, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Braila, etc. Their peer is the Kyustendil chitalishte "Bratstvo" and the Tarnovo "Nadejda" - the initiator for its founding being Dimitar Hadji Pavli Ivanov /1847-1913/, heir of an old Tarnovo trade kin. Many documents about the chitalishte have been preserved including its statute and in the library are kept 12 old manuscripts, 231 old printed books, 18 newspaper head-lines and 15 magazine titles. The new community centre’s building is opened on 19th October 1886 and there are held the Third, Fourth and Fifth Great National Assemblies. In it, Ferdinand Saxe-Coburg and Gotha pledged oath on 2nd August 1887 as knyaz of Bulgaria and also the Independence of Bulgaria is declared there. Later from the chitalishte scene start the carriers of the unforgettable actors Konstantin Kisimov, Dimitar Panov and Elena Stefanova. From here originates the national motto "United we stand strong" which is on the façade of the chitalishte building and the National Assembly building in Sofia. In its modern history chitalishte "Nadejda 1869" continues to enhance important for the spiritual development of the city events, to be a guardian of the traditions and self-consciousness, to create new cultural spaces, mapping its projection in the future. Today, 150 years later, the national community centres continue to be sustainable cultural institution with specific mission for preserving and developing the traditional Bulgarian values. Their deep interconnections with the past, the traditions, educational process, culture, charity and work in support of the community earn trust and their potential to encourage the social change and to strengthen the civil society makes them successful in the challenges of the modern world.

Title: Prehistoric Ceramics Found During the Research in the Caves in the Veliko Tarnovo Region
Authors: Evgeni Koev
Abstract: The caves in the Veliko Tarnovo region are the first ones in Bulgaria where spelaeological archeological research was carried out. Even as early as the end of the 19th c., during the research of the Polichki cave near Dryanovo monastery and the Golyamata cave near Veliko Tarnovo, samples of prehistoric ceramics were found, which the researchers date back to the Neolithic period. In the next decades research was carried out in the Malkata cave, Raztsepenata cave, Popin pchelin cave, Tsarskata cave, Anduka cave and the Emen cave as well. The samples of prehistoric ceramics found in these caves date back to the Paleolithic, Neolithic, the Bronze and the Iron Age. In recent years the archeological research was reestablished in the Golyamata cave and in the Monastery cave near the village of Arbanasi, which enriched the knowledge of prehistoric ceramics in the Veliko Tarnovo region.

Title: Challenges in Protecting, Preserving and Presenting Cultural and Historical Heritage
Authors: Mihaela Krasteva
Abstract: The restoration of cultural and historical heritage today does not always lead to the actual expected results, with a meaningful translation of the concepts of "preservation" and "conservation". In recent years there has been a recovery of an old, not as successful, old practice from the 60s and 80s of the last century as the restoration of ancient fortresses and buildings in a presumably expected form - the original original. Today, in days of technological revolution, the possible methods of preservation and preservation of cultural and historical heritage through digitization are real, many and different. There are sites for which the only chance of preservation is digitization. Objects that are registered in the national treasure map and which quietly crash as the sun sets.

Title: Institutionalised Heritage in 21 Century. Digitalization Methodology and e-Being
Authors: Kalina Sotirova-Valkova
Abstract: Digital cultural heritage is a phenomenon that provokes a serious interdisciplinary discourse on identity, science, politics and technology. Movable and immovable cultural assets, preserved in memory institutions (libraries, museums, galleries and community centers) influenced by digital technologies and communications, require a new "reading". This "reading" should be in a wider historical, geographic and research context. Digitization process provides such wide research and educational context for heritage artefacts by providing access to the e-objects it creates. However, a unified methodology for the digitization of artifacts is lacking in our country, and the purpose of this paper is to explain and fill this gap, based on the acquired author's experience in dialogue with Bulgarian museums and in comparison with good European practices. The e-being of Bulgarian heritage, preserved in museums, can have many possible applications, not only in education and tourism, but also in exposition activities and on-line museum presence. The paper examines the conditions for making them possible, namely: adequate, long-term and sustainable national and museum policy and a proven methodology of digitization.
