Abstract: The caves in the Veliko Tarnovo region are the first ones in Bulgaria where spelaeological archeological research was carried out. Even as early as the end of the 19th c., during the research of the Polichki cave near Dryanovo monastery and the Golyamata cave near Veliko Tarnovo, samples of prehistoric ceramics were found, which the researchers date back to the Neolithic period. In the next decades research was carried out in the Malkata cave, Raztsepenata cave, Popin pchelin cave, Tsarskata cave, Anduka cave and the Emen cave as well. The samples of prehistoric ceramics found in these caves date back to the Paleolithic, Neolithic, the Bronze and the Iron Age. In recent years the archeological research was reestablished in the Golyamata cave and in the Monastery cave near the village of Arbanasi, which enriched the knowledge of prehistoric ceramics in the Veliko Tarnovo region.
